LEWISTON — Embracing the solitude of his Georgia creekside cabin, as well as his cozy, book-ringed shop in Lewiston, poet Robert M. Giannetti has found the introspection needed to arrange carefully chosen words in the most poignant manner.
This talent earned him a recent invitation to Poland, as the only American honored at the 32nd “November International Festival of Poetry” at the University of Poznan.
He also will give a reading of his works Feb. 15 at the University at Buffalo’s Capen Library.
Many of Giannetti’s works have been translated into Polish and awarded critical acclaim by eminent Polish poet and scholar Daruisz Lebioda. Lebioda recently devoted a major critical essay to Giannetti’s poetry and helped pave the way for his first visit to Poland late last year.
Lebioda wrote in Temat, the scholarly periodical he edits, that Giannetti’s poetry “flows in the stream of achievements by American poets such as Sandburg, Kunitz and Levine.”
